The Hike for Hospice benefiting VON Oxford Sakura House is an annual hike that brings families, friends, staff, volunteers, sponsors and community members together to raise funds for Oxford County’s only residential hospice. 

On August 31, 2024, our journey began at Sakura House as Mom was moved there from Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. We had no idea what to expect when we arrived and for the next 10 days we were quarentined in her room because she and I had contracted Covid in the hospital. We knew that her room and the care she received was excellent but we didn't actually get to experience the rest of the facility until 10 days later. The facility is unbelieveable and brings such peace and comfort day after day.

The end of life care that not only Mom received but the care and compassion that our family experienced was incredible. Everyday volunteers, nursing staff, PSW's, councillors, and doctors helped us through the journey as we prepared to say good-bye. They truly are angels on earth. The facility is magnificent and needs upkeep, room by room, Sakura is being refreshed and made to feel like your are in a room in your home, not is a medical facility. The grounds are kept up by volunteers and are a peaceful to wander when you need a break.

Bob, Ben and I are hiking and fundraising on the one year anniversay of Mom's passing, to help patients and their families who will use these services in the coming year.
